Dr. Fauci Backed Controversial Wuhan Lab with U.S. Dollars for Risky Coronavirus Research

[Editor’s note: While this article in the national magazine, Newsweek, originally appeared on 28 April 2020, it sheds considerable light upon who was responsible for this “global pandemic”, the man who has done more damage and devastation to the United States than our most formidable foreign adversaries combined–Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and Emperor Hirohito–and who appears to me to be a sadistic narcissist who cares only about himself and basks in his ability to inflict more pain and suffering upon the world than any other single figure in history, Anthony Fauci, as a consequence of which I refer to him as “Tony the Rat”.]

Dr. Anthony Fauci is an adviser to President Donald Trump and something of an American folk hero for his steady, calm leadership during the pandemic crisis. At least one poll shows that Americans trust Fauci more than Trump on the coronavirus pandemic—and few scientists are portrayed on TV by Brad Pitt. But just last year, the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the organization led by Dr. Fauci, funded scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and other institutions for work on gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses.

In 2019, with the backing of NIAID, the National Institutes of Health committed $3.7 million over six years for research that included some gain-of-function work. The program followed another $3.7 million, 5-year project for collecting and studying bat coronaviruses, which ended in 2019, bringing the total to $7.4 million.

Many scientists have criticized gain of function research, which involves manipulating viruses in the lab to explore their potential for infecting humans, because it creates a risk of starting a pandemic from accidental release.

SARS-CoV-2 , the virus now causing a global pandemic, is believed to have originated in bats. U.S. intelligence, after originally asserting that the coronavirus had occurred naturally, conceded last month that the pandemic may have originated in a leak from the Wuhan lab. (At this point most scientists say it’s possible—but not likely—that the pandemic virus was engineered or manipulated.)

Dr. Fauci did not respond to Newsweek’s requests for comment. NIH responded with a statement that said in part: “Most emerging human viruses come from wildlife, and these represent a significant threat to public health and biosecurity in the US and globally, as demonstrated by the SARS epidemic of 2002-03, and the current COVID-19 pandemic…. scientific research indicates that there is no evidence that suggests the virus was created in a laboratory.”

The NIH research consisted of two parts. The first part began in 2014 and involved surveillance of bat coronaviruses, and had a budget of $3.7 million. The program funded Shi Zheng-Li, a virologist at the Wuhan lab, and other researchers to investigate and catalogue bat coronaviruses in the wild. This part of the project was completed in 2019.

second phase of the project, beginning that year, included additional surveillance work but also gain-of-function research for the purpose of understanding how bat coronaviruses could mutate to attack humans. The project was run by EcoHealth Alliance, a non-profit research group, under the direction of President Peter Daszak, an expert on disease ecology. NIH canceled the project just this past Friday, April 24th, Politico reported. Daszak did not immediately respond to Newsweek requests for comment.

The project proposal states: “We will use S protein sequence data, infectious clone technology, in vitro and in vivo infection experiments and analysis of receptor binding to test the hypothesis that % divergence thresholds in S protein sequences predict spillover potential.”

In layman’s terms, “spillover potential” refers to the ability of a virus to jump from animals to humans, which requires that the virus be able to attach to receptors in the cells of humans. SARS-CoV-2, for instance, is adept at binding to the ACE2 receptor in human lungs and other organs.

According to Richard Ebright, an infectious disease expert at Rutgers University, the project description refers to experiments that would enhance the ability of bat coronavirus to infect human cells and laboratory animals using techniques of genetic engineering. In the wake of the pandemic, that is a noteworthy detail.

Ebright, along with many other scientists, has been a vocal opponent of gain-of-function research because of the risk it presents of creating a pandemic through accidental release from a lab.

Dr. Fauci is renowned for his work on the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 1990s. Born in Brooklyn, he graduated first in his class from Cornell University Medical College in 1966. As head of NIAID since 1984, he has served as an adviser to every U.S. president since Ronald Reagan.

A decade ago, during a controversy over gain-of-function research on bird-flu viruses, Dr. Fauci played an important role in promoting the work. He argued that the research was worth the risk it entailed because it enables scientists to make preparations, such as investigating possible anti-viral medications, that could be useful if and when a pandemic occurred.

The work in question was a type of gain-of-function research that involved taking wild viruses and passing them through live animals until they mutate into a form that could pose a pandemic threat. Scientists used it to take a virus that was poorly transmitted among humans and make it into one that was highly transmissible—a hallmark of a pandemic virus. This work was done by infecting a series of ferrets, allowing the virus to mutate until a ferret that hadn’t been deliberately infected contracted the disease.

The work entailed risks that worried even seasoned researchers. More than 200 scientists called for the work to be halted. The problem, they said, is that it increased the likelihood that a pandemic would occur through a laboratory accident.

Dr. Fauci defended the work. “[D]etermining the molecular Achilles’ heel of these viruses can allow scientists to identify novel antiviral drug targets that could be used to prevent infection in those at risk or to better treat those who become infected,” wrote Fauci and two co-authors in the Washington Post on December 30, 2011. “Decades of experience tells us that disseminating information gained through biomedical research to legitimate scientists and health officials provides a critical foundation for generating appropriate countermeasures and, ultimately, protecting the public health.”

Nevertheless, in 2014, under pressure from the Obama administration, the National of Institutes of Health instituted a moratorium on the work, suspending 21 studies.

Three years later, though—in December 2017—the NIH ended the moratorium and the second phase of the NIAID project, which included the gain-of-function research, began. The NIH established a framework for determining how the research would go forward: scientists have to get approval from a panel of experts, who would decide whether the risks were justified.

The reviews were indeed conducted—but in secret, for which the NIH has drawn criticism. In early 2019, after a reporter for Science magazine discovered that the NIH had approved two influenza research projects that used gain of function methods, scientists who oppose this kind of research excoriated the NIH in an editorial in the Washington Post.

“We have serious doubts about whether these experiments should be conducted at all,” wrote Tom Inglesby of Johns Hopkins University and Marc Lipsitch of Harvard. “[W]ith deliberations kept behind closed doors, none of us will have the opportunity to understand how the government arrived at these decisions or to judge the rigor and integrity of that process.”

  1. One would like to think that Trump will save us. Given his track record in speeding up Operation Warpspeed and playing footsies with Fraudci and telling the patriot protesters to go home, I wouldn’t count on it. But some would say he has just been letting the traitors out themselves for the Big Sweep. That said, I can’t think of any alternative to trusting a bird in the bush but mass civil disobedience, which could be rather stressful and not altogether likely to happen — but gosh, it would be great if it did! I think the red states are ripe for it, given the leadership they need to go in that direction. These are certainly the times that try men’s souls.

    1. Not only are these the times that try mens souls, these are the times via the ‘vid vax they are trying to TAKE mens souls and I might venture to say they have a bunch already.

  2. You do not have to be a believer to understand what this priest says. You may not accept HELL as a reality, but what is coming IF we do nothing will be HELL ON EARTH.

    A Catholic priest speaks up.

He lays it out very well, but had to stop short of saying it is the Jews and instead rips one of the organizations they founded – masonry. He stopped short of naming them directly to help avoid getting his channel deleted.

My take: Though he did not go beyond “it is the masons” because you can rip the masons all you want and never get deleted, he still covered key points with regard to what is really going on. The main points:

    1. they spent 300 years setting up the world for a fall now.

    2. They want everyone enslaved.

    3. They want a majority of the population culled

    4. It is not enough to have people enslaved, they want the people to be as perverted as they are and they intend to enforce it and kill anyone who does not comply. This means the child sacrifices, pedophilia – the whole thing must be complied with and condoned because it is their goal to take everyone to hell with them.

Link to Fauci’s 2017 prediction of the current pandemic.

How did he know that a pandemic was imminent during Trump’s term of office?
Is it because he illegally funded the sloppy Chinese research into enhancement of the bat virus??
Fauci is one of the most dangerous government employees in world history. His advice to President Trump was pure excrement.

  4. I would normally use Newsweek as toilet paper if I somehow, through some strange miracle found a copy within reach…but since Jim has published the article, I gave it a shot. Sorry to say I only got though the first paragraph…Fauci is something of an American hero…give me a friggin break. Fauci is good for one thing….testing guillotines. The man is a stone cold genocidal monster. So, this time, I am throwing out Newsweek with the bathwater with no regret whatsoever.

That said, here’s an article of encouragement:

President Trump is still the President in an undisclosed location working with our military. We can say this due to Trump signing the 1807 Insurrection Act in January 2021. As usual, most media say that has not been signed. They are wrong. My military source and patriot Simon Powell says he was also told by a military contact that it had been signed.

Trump is also standing on his 2018, executive order 13848 which imposes sanctions in case of foreign interference with a United States Election. By now, the world knows of the international interference and coordinated vote changing crimes to enact a coup against Trump’s landslide victory. The focus was to put the Chinese controlled Communist stooge in the White House, Joe Biden.

I have already shared with you part of the growing mountain of evidence showing foreign election involvement with our Presidential election. One of these large offenders was the Government of Italy and the Vatican using the Leonardo Vatican Satellite to change many votes from Trump to Biden. Trump also said he had much proof linking China, Germany, Great Britain, and other nations to the election crimes and coup.

You must notice the growing amount of radio, TV and print, cowards, traitors and liars who scream that Biden is the real President now, get over it, and the election votes were checked in court after court and nothing confirmed a win by Trump over Biden. In my view, those who are now spewing the lying talking points of the treasonous election coup should not escape any severe consequences. This is total treason on many levels.

Remember also in one of my recent articles that Attorney Sydney Powell found the real election results. They were far from a Biden win or a squeaker. Trump got 410 Electoral College Votes and Biden got 128. There has never been such a landslide victory for a President in the history of the U.S.

Be patient, pray and don’t doubt Trump and our military. There is a strategy and real, winning plan. Be patient. God, America and President Trump will not be robbed, taken out or erased.

    1. Excellent. But the point of the NEWSWEEK piece was that it presents evidence that Fauci was complicit in creating the CV virus, which means he is not a hero but a traitor and a rat.

      1. Truer than true, Jim….but there is nothing that can redeem Newsweek and any other MSM……they have all committed treason.

      2. When it was decided that certain parts of the protocol to make the added function Covid were too dangerous and illegal here in the US, our little rodentine Fauci moved the program to Wuhan along with a fat bundle of research money. Fauci has been plastered all over the media for the last several years and many people have anointed him as being some sort of genius hero. It’s hard to quantify just exactly how much Trump has been controlled by deep state forces, but clearly his going along with Fauci has been a disaster. I’ve not been enamored of Trump’s scientific acumen, he strikes me as gullible.
That said, I would never deny that Trump is easily the most controlled president we’ve ever had, nor would I completely excoriate Trump’s last 5 years. There’s no telling what Trump could have done were it not for the ravages of the deep staters.

      3. PLEASE, Bahmi…be serious…have you forgotten Bush Jr…….OR Obama …good lawd,what a generalization.

      4. Be specific, Will. I have to tolerate your generalizations? Tough talk from a keyboard warrior……

      5. Bush was controlled by neocons who got us into a war in Iraq where millions were slaughtered. Is that specific enough? How many wars did Trump get us into?

      6. Obama was controlled and invented by the CIA and is responsible for laying the bricks of where we are today.

      7. Bahmi…we all keyboard warriors….think you are exempt?…think again.
Folks in glass houses and all that, eh?

      8. AND, I must add to say Trump is the most controlled president of all time is outrageous and has no basis in fact. If he was so controlled, he would still be in office and not have been the most ATTACKED president in the history of this country.
Further, if I have made generalizations and YOU did not call me on them, then where does the fault belong? I am not perfect. I post more than anyone here and am bound to make mistakes. I have no problem being corrected.

      9. Yes, Trump is extremely gullible and he relied on someone who is a lifelong criminal for horrible advice.

      10. Pleeez – nobody ‘created’ anything, as far as I know*, except a boogey man.
A phantom menace. Why are we still talking about it in terms of anything
being ‘real’. Habit I guess. Don’t we all remember that the CDC admitted
it hadn’t “isolated” the virus ?! Fancy way of saying can’t find it. Hmmm,
rather inconvenient wouldn’t you say if you’re building a society halting
pandemic operation ?! Nah, why let that stop us – FULL STEAM AHEAD.
The goyim will never notice there’s literally nothing. We’ll test for, treat
for, and FRIGHTEN FOR NOTHING. Yes – I like it, I like it a lot. It’s worth
a reminder that not being able to go to the moon was no deterrent for
those clever and adventurous souls at NASA. They went anyway. See
what I mean ?! Sorry but I don’t believe in any of this ‘gain of function’
nonsense. Gain of function for WHAT exactly ?! Something they tell
us is inorganic and inert – a snippet or particle of RNA, or DNA and
some kind of ‘protein coat’ blah, blah. Something they say has no
agency. HOW COULD IT ?!! It has no metabolism, no respiration,
and no reproduction according to them. So someone’s lying here
somewhere. May I suggest that, among many lies, would it really
surprise anyone that it is very common practice to basically steal
research and grant money, often in large chunks, for spurious
claims and causes. Nah, never happens.
